Pradeep Makan is an orthopaedic spinal surgeon in private practice in Cape Town where he developed his passion for the management of degenerative spinal conditions including complex adult spinal deformities. He currently maintains a part time post at Groote Schuur Hospital where he assists in the orthopaedic trainee programme whilst also maintaining ties with the University of Cape Town (UCT) as a senior lecturer.
He obtained his under and postgraduate training at UCT. After completing a spinal fellowship in Oxford in 1996, he returned to Cape Town to deliver a spinal service at Groote Schuur Hospital. He was a Smith & Nephew traveling Fellow in 1994 and an ABC Fellow in 2002. He is President elect of SA Orthopaedic Association, EXCO member and past president of SA Spine Society, member of NASS, AO Spine and The Girdlestone Society, an examiner of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of SA and a reviewer for international and local journals. He is married to a family physician, Juanita, and has twin daughters.
He is a keen hiker and a wine collector.
